LKR Innovation House

Arkitekt: Praksis Arkitekter

LKR Innovation House in Østbirk, Denmark is a compelling example of how existing buildings can be transformed into modern environments for innovation, development, and wellbeing. Designed by PRAKSIS ARKITEKTER for VELUX, the project converts former industrial halls into a contemporary innovation hub with offices, workshops, laboratories, and collaborative workspaces gathered under one roof.

At the core of the project is a clear architectural ambition: to preserve and enhance the qualities already present in the original structure. Rather than building new, the design team chose to work with the existing halls and reshape them into a flexible, future-oriented setting defined by reuse, daylight, and a strong spatial identity.

A project where windows play a central role

In a transformation project like LKR Innovation House, window solutions are not simply technical components. They are part of the architectural language and essential to how the building is experienced from both inside and outside.

All vertical windows for the project were delivered by Krone Vinduer. The windows contribute to the facade’s rhythm and character while helping bring natural light deep into the building. In this way, they support both the visual identity of the project and the everyday indoor experience for the people who use it.

For Krone, projects like LKR Innovation House reflect an approach where quality, function, and architectural intent must work together. The right window solution must respond to the building’s design vision while also meeting the practical requirements of a complex and ambitious project.

At LKR Innovation House in Østbirk, Denmark, former industrial halls have been transformed into a contemporary innovation hub designed by PRAKSIS ARKITEKTER. Through close collaboration with the architects, Krone Vinduer delivered all vertical windows for the project, contributing to both the facade expression and the daylight experience throughout the building.

Supporting transformation through tailored solutions

Transformation projects place special demands on materials and detailing. New solutions must relate to existing structures, proportions, and architectural qualities, while also meeting contemporary expectations for comfort, durability, and performance.

That is where Krone’s experience becomes especially valuable. In projects such as LKR Innovation House, the role of the supplier is not only to deliver windows, but to contribute to a solution that fits the building as a whole. The result is a facade element that supports the architectural concept and strengthens the connection between reuse and renewal.

Daylight, atmosphere, and identity

Daylight is one of the defining qualities of LKR Innovation House. The building has been designed to create bright, healthy, and welcoming interiors that support creativity, concentration, and collaboration.

Krone’s vertical windows are part of that experience. They help shape the atmosphere of the spaces, frame views, and reinforce the connection between the indoor environment and the landscape outside. At the same time, they contribute to the precise and calm facade expression that characterises the project.

A strong reference project for Krone

LKR Innovation House is a strong reference for Krone Vinduer because it brings together many of the qualities that define contemporary architecture: transformation instead of demolition, careful use of materials, strong daylight conditions, and a high level of design ambition.

It is also a project that shows the value of close collaboration between architect and manufacturer. By working together with PRAKSIS ARKITEKTER, Krone contributed to a window solution that supports both the functional needs of the building and the architectural vision behind it.

The result is a project where the vertical windows are more than a building element. They are part of the overall story of transformation, innovation, and architectural quality.
