DVV
Danish Window Verification (DVV) is an independent inspection body under the Danish Technological Institute.
Joining DVV means that the company's products are systematically inspected every year. DVV checks that the company and its products fulfil the requirements as described in the Technical Regulations of the Danish Window Industry with regard to warranty obligations, management, quality management, product design and material quality, etc.
Windows labelled with the "DVV" quality mark thus give consumers a guarantee that the quality of the products is in order and suitable for the Danish climate.
In the unlikely event of complaints, there is also the assurance that the consumer has access to a publicly recognised complaints procedure via the construction industry's appeals board.
What is a CE mark?
20 years after the adoption of the Construction Products Directive, the EU has agreed on a common product standard for windows and external doors, DS/EN 14351-1.
From 1 February 2010, all windows and exterior doors placed on the market throughout the EU must be CE marked.
Regardless of the standard, however, it is only a legal requirement to declare the properties regulated by law in the country where the product is marketed. For windows and external doors marketed in Denmark, it is a legal requirement to declare the energy properties of the products, as required by the Danish Building Regulations.
Note that the CE mark can be placed either on the element itself (packaging) or on accompanying documents, and that the mark can be divided up so that, for example, there is a code on the product itself that refers to accompanying documents or possibly a website where the rest of the information can be found.
In order to CE mark a window or external door, the manufacturer must sign a declaration of conformity showing that the requirements of the product standard for windows and external doors DS/EN 14351-1 have been met.
-
Type testing (1st time testing, which establishes the declared properties).
-
A quality management system.
-
Declaration of conformity and CE mark.
The CE mark indicates performance characteristics such as energy properties, air and water tightness, etc. and can be used to compare manufacturers' products. The CE mark ensures that performance is determined on the same basis throughout the EU.
The CE mark is not a 'quality mark' in the usual sense - it does not emphasise one product over another, as all products must have a CE mark. Similarly, the CE mark does not, like the DVV, set requirements for processing, wood quality, surface treatment, finish, etc.
Market control
Market surveillance under Articles 15 and 21 of the Construction Products Directive is intended to ensure the proper functioning of the internal market for construction products. In addition, market surveillance authorities also have control tasks under national building regulations.
Market surveillance of the CE marking is carried out by the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority, to which any complaints must also be addressed.
The market surveillance authority can intervene if the construction product does not bear the CE marking, if the labelling is not done correctly, if the declaration of conformity is not available, or if the construction product does not meet the provisions of DS/EN 14351-1.
