BR18 climate requirements - EPD
The construction industry is responsible for a large part of the world's CO2 emissions - and that's an obligation. At KRONE, we take responsibility, which is why we are well prepared for the new and stricter climate requirements for construction that came into force on 1 July 2025. With the new climate requirements in focus, we are working hard to contribute to sustainable construction.
LCA calculation
The new stricter climate requirements mean that developers must document the building's total carbon footprint through a life cycle assessment (LCA) before an occupancy licence can be granted. The requirements apply to all new buildings that are already covered by the energy framework - and come into effect when applying for a building permit.
It's an important step towards a greener future where responsibility and documentation go hand in hand.
As of 1 July 2025, the following climate requirements apply:
-
All new buildings must have a climate calculation (LCA).
-
There is a limit on the building's CO₂ emissions: an average of 7.1 kg CO₂e per m² per year.
-
The construction process can emit a maximum of 1.5 kg CO₂e per m².
-
The requirements apply when applying for a building permit.
-
Limit values may vary depending on the type of building.
Certain critical buildings may be exempt from the requirements.
If you are looking for more information about the applicable requirements or want them clarified, read more in the Building Regulations.
EPD
With KRONE product-specific EPDs, an accurate calculation is achieved. The calculation uses CO2 equivalents for our materials, which in the EPD is called Global Warming Potential (GWP), and shows the climate impact of KRONE windows in terms of kg CO2 equivalents.
There will be some products that are not listed below, and here we recommend using the Window Industry EPD.
